A água é fundamental para a vida no planeta. Nela surgiram as primeiras formas de vida, e a partir dessas, originaram-se as primeiras formas terrestres. Existe uma falsa idéia de que os recursos hídricos são infinitos. Realmente há muita água no planeta, mas menos de 3% de toda a água do mundo é doce, e apenas 0,3% dessa água doce está disponível para o consumo humano (Instituto Sócio-Ambiental, 2005).

Por isso, a preservação das nascentes e áreas de recarga do lençol freático junto com a adoção de práticas agropecuárias que não agridam o meio ambiente são fundamentais para a conservação da qualidade e quantidade da água potável em todo o mundo.

A iniciativa do Governo de Minas em parceria com a Amanhágua que visa a proteção e recuperação dos fragmentos de Mata Atlântica no Estado também é utilizada no programa de Proteção às Nascentes. O objetivo é contribuir para a recomposição e recuperação da massa florestal, por meio da proteção às nascentes e áreas de recarga hídrica, Áreas de Preservação Permanente e de Reserva Legal.

O programa inclui áreas de regeneração natural e outras onde é feito o enriquecimento da mata com o plantio de espécies nativas.

Os produtores que participam do projeto se comprometem, entre outros, a não cortar madeira nas áreas incluídas no programa, evitar o uso do fogo e não deixar o gado transitar nestes locais. Em contrapartida, recebem do IEF incentivos financeiros e insumos como moirões e arame para o cercamento da área. Recebem também, se necessário mudas e adubo para enriquecimento florestal.

THE SPRINGS PROTECTION

The water is a fundamental element for the life in the planet. The first forms of life appeared in it giving origin to the first Earth forms. The idea that the hydro resources are infinite is false. To be true there are lots of water in the planet, but less than 3% of that is continental water and only 0,3% is available to the human use (Instituto Sócio-Ambiental, 2005). Facing that situation, the preservation of the sources and recharge areas of the sheet water besides the adoption of agricultural practices not  damaging  the environment are crucial  to the quality and quantity conservation of the usable water in the whole world.

The initiative of the government of MG with the Amanhagua cooperation is driven to the protection and recuperation of the Atlantic Forest’s fragments in MG, is also in use in the program of Sources Protection. The objective is to contribute to the recuperation and recomposing of the forest mass by the protection of the sources and hydro recharge areas. Permanent Preservation  and Legal Reserve Areas.

The program includes the natural regeneration areas and others where is taking place the enrichment of the  forest by the plantation of native species.

The producers participating in the project assume not to cut the trees in the included areas of the program, to avoid the use of fire and the grazing in those places. In return they receive from the IEF (State Forestall Institute) financial support and material like wood to build fences. They also have, if necessary, fertilizers as well as the new plants to make the forest richer.
